Growing up far from the lively streets of Peru, the infectious rhythms of Peruvian Cumbia brought back memories of my childhood. In a faraway land of new beginnings, I found solace and affinity in the pulsating rhythms that were making waves in Peru. Among the iconic bands that won the hearts of Peruvians, Grupo 5 shone as a musical giant.
Now, I see that Grupo 5 and the vibrant world of Peruvian Cumbia were not just a big part of my youth: they were the rhythm of my journey, keeping my Peruvian roots alive and dancing in my heart, no matter how far I wandered.
Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of salsa through the timeless classics of Héctor Lavoe. Growing up, the soundtrack of my childhood was filled with the rhythms of salsa masters, courtesy of my father's love of Caribbean music. Lavoe's iconic hits like "Todo Tiene su Final" (Everything Has Its End) and "Periódico de Ayer" (Yesterday's Newspaper) resonated in our first car we bought when we arrived in the United States creating an atmosphere of joy and nostalgia. Let Lavoe's infectious salsa rhythms transport you to a world where every note tells a story, every rhythm ignites passion, and every song becomes a treasured memory. Please join me in celebrating the enduring legacy of this salsa maestro by appreciating this illustration of one of my favorite singers.
